Punky Brister is the stage name for Chris Brister, a former defensive back from Texas Tech University, who performed for two seasons during 2002-2003 as a wrestler for the XWWF, the minor league circuit of the World Wrestling Federation. Brister was known for his bright red hair and a wrestling jump suit that was embedded with over 3000 ruby red bedazzle rhinestones made by his future wife, Cara Jane, who was working at the time in the wardrobe department of the company that sponsored the XWWF. The two met during a training session before his first match in 2002 and would later marry after both retired from the wrestling circuit.
In the ring, Brister's signature move was called "The Flying Christer" - a variant of a flying arm bar that he used to stun oppenents before sweeping out their legs and pinning them for the win, though he rarely had a chance to use it. Over the course of two seasons on the circuit, Brister posted a record of 2 wins and 24 losses. After his final match, a loss on November 14, 2003, he was quoted saying, "Well, you can't win them all." When asked what was next for him, he said, "I'm going to seminary!" Punky Brister will go down as one of the most successful minor league wrestlers in the history of the XWWF, along with all the other April fools legends of their time.
